Mental Health First Aid for Professional Organisers

MHFA Training for PO's
Mental Health First Aid is for everyone but is particularly essential for Professional Organisers and other small business owners working closely with people. At the IOPO we consider this an essential part of training for any PO. There are only 12 places available to give each participant the attention needed. Registrations will close on 8th June 2022 to allow time for you to complete the eLearning segment and receive your MHFA Manual in the post.

Workplace Mental Health First Aid Course

Blended e-Learning and live online training

This course focuses on the workplace of a Professional Organiser.  The training provides relevant information, tailored scenarios and exercises that will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to provide initial mental health first aid. Mental Health First Aider's can assist colleagues, clients, and other workplace contacts who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.  You'll know how to connect people needing assistance with supports and external professional help.

Developed in response to COVID-19, the new Blended Online MHFA Workplace Course includes two course components.

Course Component 1 – Self-paced interactive eLearning

This self-paced eLearning segment is to be completed prior to the first live online session on 21st July 2022. The self-paced eLearning component requires approx. 5-9hrs. 

Developing mental health problems covered:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety problems
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems

Mental health crises covered: 

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours 
  • Non-suicidal self-injury 
  • Panic attacks Traumatic events
  • Severe psychotic states 
  • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use 
  • Aggressive behaviours.
Course component 2 - Instructor-led videoconferencing (2 x 2.5 hour sessions)

These sessions are being held on 21st July & 28th July 2022 10:30 - 1pm AEST
This course component allows participants the opportunity to revise and consolidate practical skills in a group environment after completing the eLearning component.

In this training, delivered over Zoom Meeting from wherever you are, the focus is on the revision and application of knowledge and skills learnt in the eLearning component. The video conferencing includes large and small group activities, providing participants with the opportunity to:

  • Revise the eLearning content and the MHFA Action Plan
  • Clarify any points of uncertainty remaining after completion of the eLearning modules
  • Apply the MHFA Action Plan to relevant scenarios
  • Discuss and reflect 'a where to from now' in using mental
  • Develop a self-care plan to maintain good mental health

Technical Requirements

You will need a device with a camera and microphone to participate, a laptop will usually be the better option but you can join via a tablet or smartphone via the Zoom app if this is not an option. You will need to do the eLearning segment on a laptop or computer. 

We so look forward to sharing these last two sessions with you. It's your opportunity to learn how to apply the first aid protocol in real-world and real PO workplace scenarios. This course is a verified training for IOPO Accreditation points. This training gives you the option to be come an Accredited MHFAider.
